One of the many projects for which people hire carpenters is building handicap-accessible ramps. An Irvine, California carpentry contractor can construct and install a wooden ramp that enables a wheelchair-bound individual to enter an elevated entranceway independently. However, when hiring an Irvine carpenter to construct a ramp, be sure he follows the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. The ADA contains guidelines for building safe, secure ramps. Though not legally binding in residential buildings, it’s still important to use the ADA as an authoritative source on such aspects as the slope of the ramp, traction to be used, width and handrails.
