Whether you’re building a deck, overhang or an outdoor table, you should consider pressure-treated wood. According to New York, New York carpentry contractors, the majority of pressure-treated wood is yellow pine. The wood is durable and can survive the elements because it’s treated with a special formula of insecticide-preservative. Pressure-treated wood comes in a variety of qualities, but New York carpenters recommend using Grade No. 1 for railings and benches, and Grade No. 2 or better for decks and other weight-bearing structures. While pressure-treated wood sounds appealing, many people don’t like it because of its greenish color that turns gray over time. However, if you don’t want your wood to decay or warp, there aren’t many alternatives.
