When selecting lumber for your own project, there are a number of defects that Oklahoma City, Oklahoma carpenters recommend looking out for. A bow is one common problem. This is when the face of a board is curved – usually a result of improper storage. A check is another problem to look out for. This is a crack in the wood, and if found only at the end of a board it can be removed by cutting off that end. According to Oklahoma carpentry contractors, one of the worst possible defects is a twist, which is a form of warping where the ends twist in opposite direction from each other. Such a board is unusable unless it’s cut into smaller pieces and flattened with a jointer.
